Some people say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day.
I say, if it’s good luck, then these two have the best luck I’ve EVER seen.
Now, I consider myself to be a pretty positive person. Sure, I have bad days and pity parties like the rest of us, but I’ve often thought about what I would have done if I’d woken up to a monsoon on my wedding day.
Complain? Be sad? Even….cry?
Or would I make the most of it?
Well, Heather, did more than that. Her groom, Albert, did more than that.
Heck, her entire wedding party did more than that.
Instead of complaining because it was rainy, windy, and cold, this bridal party laughed their hearts out, squished themselves together on old patio furniture, smiled for the camera, and had a blast. Instead of spending their moments wishing the day was different, they celebrated. I mean, REALLY celebrated. Instead of worrying about their hair, their makeup, or their clothes, they embraced the rain and faced it, head on. They ran in the rain, they stood in the rain. They even smiled in the rain.
I love shooting weddings. But this one was extra special. I love this couple and what they stand for. I love their hearts for Christ, and their servant-hearted love towards each other. I love the way they compliment each other, in the simplest, yet most beautiful of ways.
But after shooting their wedding, I love how they so quickly cast aside what they couldn’t control, and focused on what they COULD control. Their love for each other, and for Christ illuminated this day far more than the sunshine ever could have. In some ways, it was the most dreary wedding I’ve ever shot…but in other ways, it was the brightest.
Congrats Albert & Heather. It was an absolute honor to be part of your day.
So here we go. I present to you, the story of the Slocombs.
Umbrellas and all.
Getting ready at this beautiful lake house, just a few yards from the resort.
The girls, upstairs…
The guys, downstairs…
Let the preparations begin!
Mom watching her daughter put on the veil that SHE wore on her wedding day!!!
Time to put on the dress!!!
And…time to put on the sunglasses.
It’s show time! One last look at the weather.
Yep….rain.
A word of prayer, and some sweet words of encouragement from those who love her most…
And…here we go!
They celebrated their first communion as a couple, while their family and friends wrote words of love and encouragement on stones, so they could be reminded of God’s goodness, throughout their married years…
And..they’re married!!!!!!!!
Time for everyone to snuggle up on the outdoor patio furniture for some pictures!
Haha…not exactly what we had in mind, but we made the most of it!
This bridal party was AMAZING!
And some sweet portraits of Mr. & Mrs. Slocomb!!
Time to celebrate the happy couple!
A few more detail shots…
…and a few sweet moments snuggling in the rain.
Loved every moment of this beautiful day. Congrats Albert & Heather!!!
